About Us

Lanark County Interval House and Community Support offers emergency and on-going programs to women and children living in or escaping from domestic violence. We were founded in 1979 by a number of brave and determined feminists who saw the need in Lanark County for a safe place for women experiencing violence at home and in their relationships.

COVID: Safe at Home

“You are not stuck at home, you are safe at home.”

This is the slogan circulating throughout the media to reassure citizens currently self-isolating to limit the spread of COVID-19. Unfortunately, there is an extremely vulnerable demographic that this message neglects – women and children living with domestic violence. Not only does isolation significantly increase rates of abuse, so does the substantial rise in depression, anxiety, irritability, and substance abuse associated with the present uncertainty the world is facing. For some, this can be a deadly combination.

New COVID-19 Text and Chat Line

Together with the Ottawa Coalition to End Violence Against Women, Interval House of Ottawa, Ottawa Victim Services and the Eastern Ottawa Resource Centre, Crime Prevention Ottawa is pleased to announce the launch of Unsafe at Home Ottawa, a secure and supportive text and online chat line for victims and survivors of domestic and gender-based violence.

“Since 1979, Lanark County Interval House and Community Support has been providing safe, emergency shelter for women and children fleeing domestic violence. Over the years, our services have grown to include extensive community support programs including individual and group counselling, second stage housing, family court support and programs specific to children and youth.   As we honour our 40th year of service, we celebrate the leadership of strong feminist advocates, the outstanding support of community and the amazing demonstration of courage by women and children of Lanark County. We continue to do the work with gratitude, and our evolution remains rooted in the lived experience and the strong voices of women.”
